Dr. Br Ambedkar

The day 6th December marks the death anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar known as the Chief Architect of Indian Constitution, Jurist, and a Buddhist revivalist, and every year this day is being celebrated as Mahaparinirvana diwas.

The word Mahaparinivana diwas refers to ultimate Nirvana (meaning eternal happiness and peace) after death, regarded as one of the major principles of Buddhism.

As he owned the status of a Buddhist leader we cite his death anniversary as Mahaparinirvana Diwas.

He was born in 1891 in an Untouchable cast known as Mahar, and though from that time throughout his life, since childhood, he fought against the untouchability.

In the year 1912, Ambedkar received his first degree in political science and economics from Bombay University after which he got a job in Baroda and then he decided to move to the US. Afterward, in 1916 he received a doctorate from Columbia University and according to him, it was the first place where he experienced social equality. He also worked at the London School of Economics where he started his doctoral thesis.

In 1926, he successfully defended three non-Brahmin leaders who had accused the Brahmin community of ruining India and were then subsequently sued for libel. This made Ambedkar widely known in the country after which he led the movement against untouchability in 1927 known as Maha Satyagrah to allow the untouchable to drink water in public places and let them allow to use the water resources. He also fought for the right of Hindus to enter the temples. During a conference in late 1927, he condemned Hindu texts (Mansusmriti – a Hindu law book, which was said to be one of the first Sanskrit Text Book) and ceremonially burnt an ancient book.

In the year 1932, Ambedkar attended the 2nd Table round conference in which he demanded separate electorates for Dalit but Mahatma Gandhi protested along with his protesters against the separate electorates in Yerwada jail, Pune which led to the agreement of Poona Pact on 25th September 1932. This treaty gave the rights to Dalits for reserved seats in Provisional Legislatures.

Finally, on August 29, 1947, he became the chief architect of the Constitution of India’s drafting community and after India got independent he was appointed as the law minister of India.
